Metrology of the freeform 3D surfaces - 3D-metro

The local photonics development aims to create an internationally well-known photonics ecosystem and to support the photonics business and new startups in the area. The aim of the project is especially to improve the capability to measure accurately freeform surfaces and surface structures. These kinds of measurements are needed in the research and development of 3D printing and also in the fabrication of molds for 3D objects and the quality control of fabricated 3D products. To support the above-mentioned aims, the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) has planned to invest in the equipment suitable for the metrology of freeform 3D surfaces. The project will be carried out by UEF using regular investment processes. As a result, the investment will create new know-how of 3D-metrology. The investment will support remarkably the research of the printed 3D optics at university and it will open a possiblity to offer new measurement services for companies.
