Early Stage Researcher

I use geographic information system (GIS) methods to study healthcare accessibility and the indirect costs, such as patient time and travel costs, associated with accessing and receiving healthcare services. These costs are critical for chronic diseases, which require regular monitoring. I have been developing a cost model to measure travel, time and healthcare costs based on electronic health records (EHR). Additionally, I have investigated societal savings achievable with alternative healthcare processes or care methods, which reduce the need for travel. So far I have studied the costs of type 2 diabetes and the warfarin therapy of atrial fibrillation patients in the healthcare district of Siun sote in Eastern Finland.
