I work as a University Lecturer (Social sciences, Social and Public Policy) on Joensuu campus.

My field of research is Social and Public Policy, especially Rural Research. My dissertation examines the changing role of citizen participation in rural welfare services, and my special field is civic participation and civic action in the rural context, and more broadly the relationship between the civil society and the welfare state. My current research themes are village security, multi-local care, and digital exclusion.

I work as a Senior Specialist in the theme network of the National Rural Policy Council (MANE): Ensuring a Good Life in the Rural (HYMY). I am also a member of the Secretariat of the Council for Rural Policy. I work in networks and working groups consisting of representatives of science, politics, and civil society.

  • Safety and security in sparsely populated areas -network, expertise member, Ministry of the Interior in Finland
