Eva Maria del Amo, received her Ph.D. from the University of Helsinki with her dissertation “Ocular and Systemic Pharmacokinetic Models for Drug Discovery and Development” in 2015, and continued her research at the University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio in the ocular drug delivery research group under prof. Arto Urtti’s supervision. In 2018, she moved to Manchester where she started a Marie-Curie fellowship  (Horizon 2020, https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/799880) at  the Centre for Applied Pharmacokinetic Research, at the University of Manchester. Her research focused on Pharmacokinetic-Pharmacodynamic models for patients with neovascular age-macular degeneration with anti-VEGF treatment, under the mentorship of prof. Leon Aarons and in collaboration with prof. Paul Bishop. In 2020, she returned to the University of Eastern Finland with the Orion Research Foundation grant to pursue her research interests on: the application of modeling and simulation techniques to characterize the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of ocular drugs, guide dosing prtocols, and improve drug treatment in patients with retinal diseases. Moreover, she is interested in drug binding to ocular melanin pigment to sustain therapy action. Apart from pharmacometrics, she is trained in Quantitative Structure Property Relationship (QSPR) and chemoinformatics. Her computational models to describe and predict intravitreal pharmacokinetic in rabbits and humans have been followed and utilized by several small and big pharmaceutical companies as well as in Academia.

Currently, Eva Maria del Amo is a docent in the field of pharmacokinetic modeling and simulations, and research Fellow in the research community Drug Discovery and Delivery Technologies at the University of Eastern Finland. She has  published more than 40 publications including peer reviewed scientific articles and book chapters that have received >3300 citations (h-index 24). She has supervised 9 PhD students from Finland, UK, and USA (4 graduated), and 6 MSc and Bachelor students. She is a reviewer for journals such as Int J Pharm, Mol Pharm, Expert Opin Drug Deliv, Eur J Pharm Biopharm, Commun BioL and Drug Deliv Transl Res. She has acted as examiner for 7 evaluations on associate professorship, international PhD thesis and MSc thesis examinations.
