Annukka Lahti

Annukka Lahti is a university lecturer in cultural studies and gender studies at the University of Eastern Finland. Her research focuses on the intersections of intimacy, power, sexuality, gender, and affect, explored through queer theory, affect theory, and recently, posthuman perspectives. In her PhD, she developed a queer psychosocial framework for studying bisexuality in relationships. She have expanded this work by developing posthuman and affect-theoretical approaches to gender, sexuality, and intimacy. Her Research Council of Finland-funded postdoctoral project ‘Where the Rainbow Ends: The Becoming of LGBTIQ+ Separations’ (project 349408) explored relationship breakups in lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ+) people’s relationships. Lahti has published numerous studies on affective inequalities and intimacies, in both queer and heterosexual relationship contexts, as well as on singlehood and LGBTIQ+ breakups. Her interdisciplinary research spans the fields of gender studies, social sciences, cultural studies, and critical psychology. She co-edited the volume Affective Intimacies (Manchester University Press, 2022) and a special issue on Affective Intimacies in NORA (2021). She co-edited a special issue titled ‘Queering intimacies, families and companionships’ for lambda nordica (2024).
