International Research on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Nursing and Nursing Science Education
The Department of Nursing Science at the University of Eastern Finland is participating in an international research project that explores nursing and nursing science students’ readiness to utilize artificial intelligence (AI). The study investigates students’ attitudes toward AI, their behavioral intentions to use AI-based technologies, and their related needs and experiences. It is part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural collaboration between the following institutions:
- Department of Nursing Science, University of Eastern Finland
- The Nethersole School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, Chinese University of Hong Kong
- Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore
- Research Unit of Health Sciences and Technology, University of Oulu
The principal investigator of the study is Professor Lau Ying (Chinese University of Hong Kong), and the Finnish lead researcher is University Researcher Outi Kähkönen (University of Eastern Finland).
This research offers a unique opportunity to understand and compare nursing and nursing science students’ AI readiness across different cultural contexts. The findings will support the development of evidence-based competencies and educational strategies to enhance the integration of AI in nursing education and future professional practice.
