Developing Patient Education for Individuals with Atrial Fibrillation

The aim of this research project is to develop patient education practices for individuals with atrial fibrillation and to strengthen their active role in managing their own care. The study particularly focuses on identifying individual education needs and enhancing patient participation.

The research is carried out in collaboration with the Department of Nursing Science at the University of Turku, the Finnish Heart Association, Heart Hospital, the Wellbeing Services County of North Savo, the Heart and Lung Center of Helsinki University Hospital, and the Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen.

As part of the study, the experiences and expectations of patients with atrial fibrillation regarding patient education are being explored. The knowledge gained will help improve practices that support patient self-care and long-term treatment outcomes.

The research is currently ongoing, and its findings will provide valuable insights for developing patient education both nationally and internationally.
