The network supports and implements the Rural Policy Program 2021–2027 in the following themes:

  • Smart adaptation
  • Availability and accessibility of social and health services, rural proofing
  • Development of everyday safety models and networks, village security
  • Promotion of participation and community-led development that enhances well-being
  • Strengthening NGO’s and civic action

The network consortium consists of the University of Eastern Finland/Karelian Institute, Kajaani University of Applied Sciences, and the Rural Education Association. The network project’s special advisors are Mari Kattilakoski (UEF), Tarja Lukkari (KAMK), Kaisa Kervinen and Virpi Harilahti-Juola (MSL).

The network is managed by the Karelian Institute, with Research Director Petri Kahila serving as the administrative leader of the project.

The project is funded by national rural policy funds allocated for nationwide rural research and development projects.
