Capturing Digital Social Inequality
Capturing Digital Social Inequality
Young digi-natives’ asymmetrical agencies within socio-technical imperatives and imaginaries (DEQUAL)
The aims of the project DEQUAL are:
• To analyze mechanisms that produce and maintain inequalities among youth in a digital society, that are seen in the statistics concerning societal marginalization, and to analyze the asymmetrical ways young people living in three fundamentally different Finnish localities benefit digital opportunity structures.
• To analyze the differentiated practices of youth’s digital culture and how these practices shape, reshape, and also aim at challenging unequal divides at different regional life-spheres, as well as in digital environments.
• To analyze both societal and life-course level consequences of these asymmetries, and thus figure how these structure-agent dialectics of the current “digital divide” among youth are intertwined.
