Leaders

This project aims to mitigate the harmful effects of climate change with the means of circular economy materials solutions. This goal is supported by materials research which help regional companies and operators to select right materials and right solutions for their processes and products. The project strengthens the development of sustainable regional economy according to the intelligent specialization strategy of the region. Material characterization, intelligent monitoring, and evaluation of environmental impacts of new materials, for example, may get new insights from applying innovative up-to-date measurement techniques. The advancement of the needs-oriented RDI of the region is the basis for the project. In addition, the project strengthens collaboration between companies and educational institutes in finding new solutions for green technology.

The development activities in this project are 1) advancing circular economy with materials research, 2) condition monitoring and damage analysis, 3) advancing measurement techniques and artificial intelligence, and 4) transfer of expertise.

As results of the project, material characterization, damage analysis, corrosion research, metallurgical studies of welds, strength analyses and environmental footprint calculation have been carried out on a need-based basis. In addition, measurement techniques and integrated measurement systems have been tested in processes or quality control, and the utilisation of data collected with sensors has been developed, for example, using machine learning. In addition, high-quality material for communications has been produced on the subject and expertise throughout the cooperation network has been strengthened.
