The goal of Our Saimaa Seal -LIFE project is to prevent and reduce the problems caused by climate change, fishing, human-caused disturbance and the small size of the Saimaa ringed seal population.The project also takes measures to improve the situation of the Baltic ringed seal population in the Archipelago Sea.

Metsähallitus is the main implementer of the project. Other partners are: University of Eastern Finland, DocArt Ky, South Karelia Recreation Area Foundation, Ely Centers of South Savo and North Karelia, Finnish Association for Nature Conservation , Finnish Food Authority, Natural Resources Institute Finland, Turku University of Applied Sciences,  University of Helsinki, WWF Finland and Government of Åland .
