Kuopio Sarcopenia Reference Population (KSRP)
Leaders
Aging of musculoskeletal system is associated with significant morbidity and health care costs. Thus, sarcopenia and frailty have received major attention. The Sarcopenia-project investigates the diagnostics of sarcopenia, risk factors for sarcopenia and frailty and their outcomes. The project is based on population-based 25-year follow-up OSTPRE study (n=14 220) and young reference population (KSRP, n=400). The project consists of three main research line:
- Diagnostic methods for sarcopenia
- Risk factors for sarcopenia and frailty
- Outcomes of sarcopenia and frailty
Kuopio Sarcopenia Reference Population (KSRP)
The collection of the Kuopio sarcopenia reference population (KSRP) was collected to obtain diagnostic cut-off values of sarcopenia in OSTPRE cohort. KSRP was enrolled between 2011 to 2014. The reference population consists of 400 healthy female students and personnel of University of Eastern Finland and Kuopio University Hospital aged 20-40 years. The reference population underwent functional tests, grip strength and body composition measurements (total body DXA), body weight and height measurements and exercise inquiry which corresponds the data collection methods used for the OSTPRE sarcopenia cohort (See description in OSTPRE study above). In addition, complete information on previous health disorders and short-term medications was collected at the time of the measurements.
