The Centre for Tourism Studies in the University of Eastern Finland Business School and the Centre for Continuous Learning are planning and piloting five new short courses on sustainable tourism business in Finnish language.
In 2017, the University of Eastern Finland launched the Master’s Degree Programme in Tourism Marketing and Management, for which the Open University of the Centre for Continuous Learning has offered English-language education related to the tourism business and its sustainability. There is a clear need for Finnish-language education in sustainable tourism business.
The courses aim to respond to the general strengthening of sustainable development activities and to ensure an operating environment that supports competitiveness. The courses are aimed at everyone interested in sustainable tourism business. Upon completion of the courses, you will receive study credits and the Sustainable Tourism Business Expert badge.
The training is open to everyone, regardless of industry and region. We are looking for people who work in the tourism industry or related fields. Registration for the courses will start at the beginning of September 2025.
The training package consists of the following studies:
SUSTAINABLE TOURISM BUSINESS, 1 ECTS
Environmental, cultural and economic impacts of tourism, nature values and biodiversity, identification of negative social and ethical impacts
MARKETING AND SALES OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM, 1 ECTS
Marketing, sales and branding, greenwashing, sustainability measurement, utilization of measurement data, carbon offsets
DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM SERVICES, 1 ECTS
Service design and customer experience, programme and event production, virtual tourism, circular economy, sustainable procurement, use of new technologies and innovations across sectoral boundaries
DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM BUSINESS, 1 ECTS
Business skills, sustainability reporting, use of RDI activities, productization, commercialization
SUSTAINABILITY IN TRAVEL DESTINATIONS, 1 ECTS
Local tourism ecosystems, destination tourism, building new cooperation models, utilizing the expertise of different industries
