Our research focuses on key themes such as occupational well-being, recovery, inclusion, and communal support within the field of education—covering both work and study-related well-being. Our research group has carried out several research and development projects aimed at strengthening teachers’ occupational well-being and the conditions that support it.
We actively participate in national and international networks, and our approach to occupational well-being research is human-centered and inclusive. Our goal is to generate knowledge that contributes to the development of working life and the design of preventive interventions that promote well-being in educational institutions.
Occupational well-being research has been a central part of educational and working life development for decades. In particular, we have studied the well-being, recovery, and pedagogical resilience of teachers and students in the contexts of social and health care education and higher education.
Our research is multidisciplinary, combining perspectives from health sciences, psychology, physiology, and social sciences. We examine occupational well-being holistically—at the individual, community, and organizational levels.
Occupational well-being research continues to be a strong part of the strategic research profile of the Department of Nursing Science at the University of Eastern Finland. Its aim is to support a sustainable, humane, and meaningful working life—for both educators and students.
