I have examined the use of Finland´s forests from a multitude of perspectives, including Finland´s wood-based industrialization, the debate over the best uses of the forests from the critique of slash-and-burn cultivation and tar burning since the 18th century to present-day forest conflicts and bioeconomy. Comparisons with the development in Sweden and Minnesota have provided further insight into the development, and currently, I have plans with colleagues in Poland for further comparative work.
