Currently I am working as an Early Stage Researcher and focusing on my PhD thesis titled “Image reconstruction and uncertainty quantification in quantitative photoacoustic tomography”. Quantitative photoacoustic tomography is an imaging method developed during the last few decades, which utilizes light induced photoacoustic effect. This method combines high contrast of optical imaging and sharp resolution of ultrasound imaging, and the most promising applications include detection of breast and skin cancers, imaging of blood vessels , treatment monitoring and imaging of small animals in biomedical applications.

One of the main challenges of quantitative photoacoustic tomography is the computational complexity of the image reconstruction problem. In my PhD thesis I develop new computational methods which can be used to decrease the computational cost of the method without sacrificing the accuracy of the reconstructed images. Additionally, I develop methods for assessing the reliability of the reconstructed images.
