The research in the Quantum Material Nanophotonics & Optoelectronics (QMNO) group aims to develop nanoscale light sources and other integrated photonic components by harnessing quantum materials such as two-dimensional (2D) materials (e.g., transition metal dichalcogenides, hexagonal boron nitride, graphene) and quantum dots. These materials exhibit unique electronic and optical properties that enable strong light–matter interactions at the nanoscale.

By integrating quantum materials with photonic structures, we explore fundamental phenomena and develop novel optoelectronic devices for next-generation photonic platforms. Our work spans from high-Q photonic crystal cavities and plasmonic nanostructures to hybrid architectures that combine electrical tunability with exceptional optical performance. Potential applications include compact and energy-efficient light sources for integrated photonics, optical information processing and high-speed on-chip communication, quantum photonics, and nonlinear and ultrafast optical devices for advanced signal processing.
