In my research, I have approached crafts in culture, society and education by focusing on both local and global perspectives.

I am concerned about issues related to the intangible and material heritage of crafts, how crafts and their making contribute to building a sustainable future, how crafts can contribute to equality and equity. Collaboration in the field of craft sciences in both national and international networks is essential for me.

In Finland, craft sciences is the main discipline for the students in craft teacher education. I supervise Master’s and PhD theses researching craft education and it is also one of my research interests. Recently, I have been addressing topical issues such as remote education, multi-material craft curriculum, equality and equity in craft education, well-being and crafts, critical craft pedagogy, skill learning and teaching, STEAM and multidisciplinary education and crafts.https://www.uef.fi/en/article/sirpa-kokko-appointed-as-professor-of-craft-science

If you are interested in these themes or have other suggestions in mind, please don’t hesitate to contact. We might find joint interest in research collaboration or in topics of Master’s  and PhD theses.
