The University of Eastern Finland is part of Synapsing project funded by Horizon Europe program by EU. The research investigates both psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. The goal is to improve diagnostics and identify disease mechanisms and risk factors. The project aims to develop blood-based biomarkers for psychiatric disease diagnostics and study the impact of socioeconomic factors on disease development. Researchers from A.I Virtanen Institute, School of Medicine and School of Law are participating in this study from the University of Eastern Finland. In total Synapsing involves 13 universities and research institutes from nine countries and is led by the Spanish IR Sant Pau research institute.
