The purpose of the project, implemented by the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) and funded by the AIKO-allowance of the Regional Council of North Karelia, is to support the reconstruction of Ukraine by promoting partnerships between Ukrainian and North Karelian companies and organizations. The project aims to identify the needs of North Karelian companies and organizations in terms of their knowledge of Ukraine. It also aims to establish connections between these organizations and potential partners in Ukraine, especially those who intend to operate there to help the country return to normal life.
Even before the project, the UEF’s School of Humanities developed a 30-credit minor in Ukrainian language and culture, which will start at the university in the fall of 2025. The aim of the project is to adapt Ukrainian studies to the economic realities of North Karelia and to make a significant contribution to the reconstruction of Ukraine.
As part of the project, two questionnaires have been created for interested companies and organizations, one for participants in North Karelia and the other for participants in Ukraine, and they are available to all interested parties who have not yet responded. Links to the questionnaires can be found in the project’s LinkedIn-page, or by contacting the project’s coordinators. The results of the surveys will help UEF find suitable partners in Ukraine and adapt Ukrainian language and culture teaching to better meet the needs of the business sector.
The project will end in January 2026 with an information event for companies in North Karelia.
