The Physico-chemical properties of solid pharmaceutical materials play an essential role in their behavior, stability, and performance throughout their lifetime. Prediction and interpretation of the material’s behavior under processing, storage, and delivery demand a deep understanding of the material’s thermodynamic, kinetic, and structural properties. To acquire the basic information needed, various material characterization methods must be employed with the knowledge of their relevance to the problem at hand. The Pharmaceutical Physics Group has specialized in utilizing thermoanalytical methods, X-ray diffraction, calorimetry, gas adsorption, spectroscopic, and microscopic methods in pharmaceutical material research. The group’s specific interests are to develop nanoporous silicon as a versatile drug delivery platform, utilize porous silicon for wastewater cleaning, and develop it as a new material for Li-ion batteries. https://sites.uef.fi/ppg/
