Co2Creation -- Teolliseen hiilenhallintaan johtavien kestävien ja kilpailukykyisten muutospolkujen yhteiskehittäminen suomalaisen yhteiskunnan hyväksi

Industrial carbon management is one of the European Union’s priorities in energy and climate policy. In industrial sectors where carbon dioxide emissions cannot be avoided, they should be captured for further use or storage.

Finland’s position is internationally unique because the forest industry, as well as bioenergy and biogas plants, generate significant amounts of biogenic CO₂ emissions. Capturing these emissions enables technological carbon sinks and the production of refined products that can replace fossil-based alternatives.

Industrial carbon management requires suitable infrastructure, such as CO₂ transport and storage capacity and sufficient electricity supply. Building such infrastructure is not worthwhile unless there is certainty about the industrial investments that would rely on it. Therefore, advancing industrial carbon management calls for high‑quality, long‑term coordination that combines a science‑based knowledge foundation with close dialogue among key actors.

The CO2Creation project aims to ensure that key stakeholders share a common understanding of realistic and worthwhile changes and investment needs. In this way, decisions and investments across different sectors and industries support one another and occur in a timely manner.
