The Asiloidea of Finland -book offers an eye-opening exploration of some of the world’s most diverse and impressive fly families.
The book presents a total of 133 species of robberflies (Asilidae), stilettoflies (Therevidae), windowflies (Scenopinidae) and beeflies (Bombyliidae + Mythicomyiidae) found in Finland and adjacent areas. Among these species are e.g. Finland’s largest fly, sympathetically fluffy and elegantly embroidered species, creatures that also live indoors and an international rarity that is currently only known in Europe from Finland.
Easy-to-use determination keys and detailed descriptions, with numerous drawings and photographs, facilitate the identification of species and encourage learning about them. Detailed species descriptions shed light on the behavior, ecology, distribution and habitat requirements of the species, helping in the search and observation of the species. In addition to the species descriptions, the book also contains a comprehensive information package on the classification of organisms, modern DNA methods, the history of environmental change, species protection and habitat care. Finland’s robber flies and their relatives will hopefully be used by a wide audience of nature lovers, biologists and environmental authorities.
The book can be ordered via the online store of the publisher at www.tibiale.fi
