Asiloidea of Finland -book project
Project
This project will produce a modern and easy-to-use book on the identification and biology of the robber flies (Asilidae), bee flies (Bombyliidae), stiletto flies (Therevidae) and window flies (Scenopinidae) of the North-Eastern Europe. These related families of flies contain many large and charismatic species, many of which are endangered in Finland. The exceptionally large number of endangered species in these families is explained by the fact that many of them have strict habitat requirements, such as bare sand or burned wood. Besides introducing the species, the book will be cover their biology, habitat requirements and species protection requirements, and will serve both laymen as well as professionals.
