Digital and AI‑Based Readiness in the Finnish Heart Association’s Volunteer Activities

Digitalisation and artificial intelligence are rapidly transforming health and social care services as well as the ways people seek information, support and care. In the context of cardiovascular diseases, digital solutions create new opportunities to support self‑care, peer support and the accessibility of services.

This research project examines the digital health literacy, technology orientation, and attitudes towards and trust in artificial intelligence among volunteers of the Finnish Heart Association. Volunteers play a key role as peer supporters and facilitators of new digital practices, making their skills and attitudes highly relevant from a societal perspective.

The aim of the study is to generate knowledge on volunteers’ readiness to adopt digital and AI‑based solutions and to identify factors that explain their intention to use such technologies. The findings will be used to support the development of peer support activities, volunteer training, and the implementation of digital health services within the Finnish Heart Association.
