My research is situated within practical theology, with a particular focus on crises—both individual and collective. In terms of individual crises, my doctoral dissertation, completed in 2021, examined the spouses of people living with mental illness. Regarding collective crises, I have explored experiences of meaning during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as older adults’ responses to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In addition, I have contributed to the ideation, implementation, and leadership of a project on the religious and ideological non-alignment of theological education, examining perspectives from students at both the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Helsinki. My most recent research focuses on religious deidentification—a process in which individuals withdraw from organized religion while retaining personally meaningful elements of religiosity.
