Pharmaceutical Waste in Finland – A study on the economic value of medicines returned to pharmacies and the factors influencing its magnitude. The study is two-phased. The phase I study aims to investigate the quantity, quality, economic value, and reasons for returning pharmaceutical waste from households to pharmacies in Finland. The phase II study aims to investigate the factors leading to the discontinuation and withdrawal of medicines and the behavior of users in these situations.

The study will provide current information on the quantity, quality, and economic value of pharmaceutical waste returned from households to pharmacies in Finland. The study will also provide a wider and more accurate picture of the factors that influence the discontinuation of drug treatments. The results will help to develop ways to reduce pharmaceutical waste without compromising medication safety. These measures can save costs for individuals, benefits paid by society, and the quantities of raw materials used for medicines.
