Political Forests - The Maya Forest
International Relations and Political Geography Otherwise in the Maya Forest
Leaders
This long-term research project and lab explores how nature conservation politics shapes international relations and political geographies in the Mesoamerican borderlands. The research begun in 2019 with funding from the Mexican Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT), and continued with a grant from the Finnish Kone Foundation (2020-). At the moment, the research continues as part of the UEF research profile development (PROFI7) and Borders, Mobilities and Cultural Encounters (BOMOCULT) Research Group (2023-2028). It is expanding towards issues related to diplomacies, geopolitics otherwise and Indigenouos peoples. This research has received support from the Finnish foundation “Kansan Sivistysrahasto”, the UEF Deptos of Geographical and Historical Studies and of Social Sciences, the UEF Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies, and the Mexican research institute El Colegio de la Frontera Sur (ECOSUR). Please consult the project/lab websites for further information.
