The Science Adventure in Eastern Finland project, implemented by the LUMA Centre of the University of Eastern Finland, aims to bring the university’s research activities and researchers closer to children and young people in the region. The project develops inspiring and interactive science visits related to the natural sciences, mathematics, and technology, and delivers these activities to primary and lower secondary schools across North Karelia and North Savo.
The Science Adventure in Eastern Finland project has four principal objectives:
- To inspire children and young people to engage with STEM disciplines (science, mathematics, and technology) by presenting current research in a vivid, accessible, and compelling manner.
- To showcase the expertise, research strengths, and career opportunities available in Eastern Finland, thereby supporting young people in making informed choices about their future pathways.
- To provide teachers in Eastern Finland with practical, ready-to-use resources that help integrate up‑to‑date research knowledge into classroom teaching.
- To reduce regional inequality by ensuring that the project’s science visits reach schools located further away from university cities.
