About the BalticSeaBioMed network
BalticSeaBioMed is a collaborative network in the field of biomedicine involving six universities: Eastern Finland, Karolinska Institutet, Southern Denmark, Turku, Vilnius and Åbo Akademi. Together we form a successful, well-functioning network with an established track record and a capacity for continuous development and renewal.
Our goal is to make the individual biomedicine master’s programmes at partner universities stronger and internationally more competitive. With support of Nordplus and Erasmus+ the network has successfully achieved its goals by sharing local competences and educational activities unique to each partner to students throughout the network.
Master’s courses
We have developed four online Master’s courses to facilitate the exchange of state-of-the-art expertise between the network’s partners. The courses are embedded in programmes at the partners.
- The Ethics of Biomedicine
- Genomics in Diagnostics and Personalized Medicine
- Computational Proteomics
- Introduction to Translational Pathology
Summer School
The network has delivered a , usually held at the University of Turku’s Archipelago Research Institute on the island of Seili, almost every year since 2014.
Innovative educational material
Our pedagogical development work includes the creation of a that teaches important biomedical concepts in a realistic scenario encompassing environmental aspects.
By applying state-of-the art biomedical methodology to evaluate the impact of human health on the environment around the Baltic Sea, we provide students with knowledge and skill sets that enhance their future employability and contribute to a competitive Nordic and Baltic region.
