Our main research areas are aquatic ecotoxicology and water hygiene. Aquatic ecotoxicology focuses on the environmental impacts of chemicals, nano- and micro-sized particles (incl. plastics) and the remediation of contaminated aquatic sediments. Water hygiene research focuses on water safety and wastewater and nutrient recycling. Our common goal is to promote the protection and sustainable use of water in both natural ecosystems and built water systems.
