We develop, validate and implement methods and approaches for evaluating effectiveness and safety of treatments by using real-world data, and also work on risk factors for conditions with long onset period.

The applied data ranges from national register-based studies to multi- and single-centre studies using data from electronic medical records and medical reports as well as data collected specifically for research purposes. We work with native data and data converted to different common data models.

The applied methods range from traditional statistical methods to machine learning. We work in close collaboration with clinicians and have extensive collaboration network, both nationally (e.g., CSC, Fimea, Kela, University of Oulu, University of Turku, VTT) and internationally (e.g., Aarhus University, The Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte, BfArM) Fraunhofer SCAI, Hong Kong University, Monash University, Utrecht University).

Collaboration

We belong to several international research and expertise networks. These include the Nordic Pharmacoepidemiology Network (NORPEN) and the European Network of Centres for Pharmacoepidemiology & Pharmacovigilance (ENCePP), SIGMA and EU PE& PV network. SIGMA Consortium of ENCePP research centres aims to provide trusted pharmacoepidemiologic and real-world evidence research through a European federated professional network of excellence. We are also a collaborator in EU pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacovigiliance research network (EU PE&PV) coordinated by the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology & Clinical Pharmacology at the Utrecht University.
