My background is in biomedicine, which I studied at the University of Uppsala, Sweden, where I graduated 2005. At the beginning of 2006, I started as a research assistant at the newly initiated navigated TMS lab at Kuopio University Hospital, and since then I have had the privilege to work in numerous projects with different topics.
Currently, I am working in a project aiming to elucidate the neuroplastic capacity in osteoarthritis and recovery after operation.
My aim is to improve methods and practices in non-invasive brain stimulation.
Laura Tammenlehto (LL.D.) works as commercial law senior lecturer and project researcher at UEF Law School. Tammenlehto’s research focuses on intellectual property rights, criminal law and procedural law, especially copyright and trademark infringements and food fraud.
I manage the SIB Labs services. We offer versatile imaging and characterisation services for both companies and research groups. In addition to service activities, we implement research and development projects in cooperation with educational institutions, research organisations and industry.
I am involved in a number of projects that focus on material technology, material characterization and continuous monitoring, the use of artificial intelligence in the analysis of continuous measurements, biorefining and microplastics. My background is in research on natural materials such wood and natural fibers, like hemp, and composites produced from these. I am involved in the implementation and development of education in materials technology and bioeconomy.
I work as a project researcher in MEDIFF and Sustageable (WP5) projects. In projects I am involved in data wrangling and statistical analysis.
Doctoral researcher Lauri Liikonen studies the use of mobile laser scanning (MLS) for detailed and precise measurement of forest stands.
Lauri Peterson, PhD (Uppsala University) is a Senior Researcher at the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) Law School. He investigates climate politics on multiple levels of governance using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Before joining UEF, Lauri was a doctoral candidate at the Uppsala University Department of Government studying the multi-level governance of climate change. I currently work as an Associate Professor of Rehabilitation Engineering at the Department of Technical Physics. I am a sports scientist by education with a specialization in biomechanics. My research is related to the structure, function, and adaptation of the human musculoskeletal system. The application areas of my research are in musculoskeletal diseases and human performance throughout the lifespan. I use various experimental techniques, including motion capture, electromyography, medical imaging, and tissue-level mechanical testing, in combination with computational modelling and simulation, to address the research questions. My current research focus areas are knee osteoarthritis, mobility in old age, and tendon disorders.
I am part of the Biophysics research group and actively work with the Biosignal Analysis and Medical Imaging research group, utilizing HUMEA Laboratory in my research. I hold the title of docent from the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Eastern Finland, where I actively collaborate with the Sports and Exercise Medicine discipline.

I obtained my PhD in English Language and Culture at the University of Eastern Finland in 2010. I have worked as a post-doctoral researcher in various research projects examining English language variation and change, and as a senior lecturer in English linguistics and foreign language pedagogy. My research interests cover second language acquisition, learner corpus research, foreign language teaching, English as a foreign/second language and English as a world language.
I have a title of docent in health economics, especially the economics of ageing. I am interested in the use, costs and financing of health and social services among older people. I have studied these mainly using register data, but considering also hidden costs and all the different funding bodies also requires a multi-method approach. My more recent research interests include factors related to the retirement of older workers, as well as the economic evaluation of nutrition interventions. I belong to the Centre of Excellence in Research on Ageing and Care (CoE AgeCare).
I coordinate the preparation of the new bachelor’s program in economics. The program will be implemented in cooperation between several departments and will start in autumn 2025. I supervise master’s theses and doctoral dissertations in the field of health economics.
