Pharmaceutical Physics
Research group
The Physico-chemical properties of solid pharmaceutical materials play an essential role in their behavior, stability, and performance throughout their whole lifetime. Prediction and interpretation of the behavior of the material under processing, storage, and delivery demand a deep understanding of the thermodynamic, kinetic and structural properties of the material. To acquire the broad basic information needed, a great variety of material characterization methods have to be employed with the knowledge of their relevance regarding the problem at hand. The Pharmaceutical Physics Group has specialized to utilize thermoanalytical methods, X-ray diffraction, calorimetry, gas adsorption, and spectroscopic methods together with microscopic methods in pharmaceutical material research. The specific interests of the group are to develop nanoporous silicon as a versatile drug delivery platform, utilize porous silicon for wastewater cleaning and to develop it as a new material for Li-ion batteries.
