The objective of the project entity is to strengthen the role of the energy technology sector in promoting climate goals and sustainable development by increasing regional RDI intensity and business‑driven innovation activity. Collaboration between companies and UEF will be intensified particularly with regard to the applicability of sustainable material solutions and technologies in green energy storage approches. The investment project will establish nationally significant battery research infrastructure at UEF, supporting both the training of specialists through the Master of Science (Tech.) programme and the development of joint RDI models with companies. The development project, in turn, focuses on leveraging the new capabilities offered by the infrastructure in collaboration with companies, within UEF’s engineering education, and in applied research.
The project entity strongly supports the specific objectives of TL2. It promotes the development of new materials and energy technologies based on carbon‑neutral solutions, especially in the field of battery technologies, where low‑carbon performance, resource efficiency, and applications linked to renewable energy sources are emphasized. The development activities carried out within the project enable diversification of energy production and energy storage solutions and create opportunities for companies to adopt new carbon‑neutral technologies. The project supports the sustainable growth and renewal of companies by providing them with new research‑based knowledge as well as opportunities to test and apply energy‑ and material‑efficient solutions in practice. The activities are clearly aligned with the principles of sustainable development and the objectives of EU environmental policy. In addition, the project is directly in line with the Älykkään Erikoistumisen Strategia of North Savo (machinery and energy technology), and its results will strengthen the region’s technological expertise, industrial competitiveness, and conditions for the green transition.
