Hang Nguyen is a Post-Doc Researcher at the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) specializing in Intellectual Property (IP) Law. Currently, her research concerns farmers’ privileges in Vietnamese Law compared to the European Union (EU) Law. As an agricultural country, Vietnam’s IP agriculture-related regulations, such as plant variety and farmer’s privileges, are not very developed; meanwhile, these regulations are more advanced in the EU. The comparison between the EU and Vietnam shows what is missing and what can be applied to Vietnam laws. Also, this research points out the possibility to protect Vietnamese agriculture products under other regimes rather than plant variety such as certification marks, collective marks, geographic indications, etc.

Hang Nguyen is a Lecturer at the faculty of Civil Law – Ho Chi Minh City University of Law (HCMU Law), Vietnam. She teaches IP Law, Civil Law, Personal Rights for undergraduate and LL.M students at HCMU Law and other universities as a guest lecturer. She obtained her Master and Doctoral degrees at the Graduate School of Law, Nagoya University, Japan. Her LL.D Dissertation and LL.M thesis were about comparative issues related to trademark laws among the United States, the EU, Japan, and Vietnam. She moved to Finland joined UEF because its Law School offers broad, wide, and profound courses on IP; it is possible to examine different fields related to IP, such as IP and Food/Food Fraud; IP and Internet or IP and International Trade.

I am an expert and educator with specialized expertise in the field of counseling processes pertaining to individuals and small groups, as well as the multifaceted phenomena and influences of counseling interactions and social factors within the realm of guidance. My professional role is situated within a university’s career and guidance program, where I hold the position of an university teacher. In this capacity, I instruct undergraduate students in matters pertaining to the aforementioned subjects, while also overseeing their practical training experiences.

My doctoral research centers on an investigation into the career adaptability of secondary school students, focusing on their corresponding perceptions of their own competencies and self-awareness, encompassing behavioral and emotional strengths.Employing quantitative research methods, I investigate the impact of social factors on the career adaptability of young individuals and their perceptions of behavioral and emotional strengths.

Prior to embarking on my university career, I accumulated over a decade of diverse teaching and developmental roles in secondary and primary educational institutions, as well as participation in various projects. At the University of Eastern Finland, I have actively contributed to initiatives such as the “Pathway to Upper Secondary School” project and the “Guidance Expertise in Collaboration” project. Within these endeavors, my responsibilities have encompassed project development and the collection and production of research materials, fulfilled through roles as both a trainer and researcher.

I graduated with a PhD in Social Sciences in 2022, majoring in social work. In my dissertation, I examined the effectiveness of care management models for older people using a mixed-method approach. My areas of expertise and interest are in older people’s well-being and care management, in addition to effectiveness research and promoting the effectiveness of social services. Currently, I work as University Lecturer in social work and researcher in the SOLDEX project and NÄPSÄ project.

Hanna Sainio ([email protected])

In my doctoral research, I examine how the work tasks and professional agency of child protection social workers are manifested from the perspective of time. I am particularly interested in the different dimensions of time and their significance in the everyday practice of social work. In addition, I study the multi-level leadership in child protection, where the social worker leads the child’s client process while simultaneously working within an organisation governed by legislation and the principles of public administration management.

Hanna Varjakoski ([email protected])

I currently work as a postdoctoral researcher in the DRIVEX project at the University of Eastern Finland. My background is in the Humanities, and I received my PhD in Media Studies in the University of Turku, Finland. In my dissertation, I examined the Finnish media landscape of the 2000s and what it produces and challenges as regards cultural imageries and understandings of ageing, older individuals and later life. The study focused on analyzing age representations on social media, popular fiction film and selected TV-makeover shows, with a gender sensitive approach.

My research interests are in the field of cultural gerontology, in particular, and I have worked as a researcher in projects investigating remote home care and the digitalization of public health care services (HAIDI research project), Covid-19 pandemic experiences of the oldest old (CAIDE85+), and older adults’ neighbour relations and age diversity in the neighborhood.

I am a board member of KaVa ry (the Finnish association of researchers on growth and aging).

I am also a member of the research team of the KESTO project (2026–2030), which explores the sustainability agency of older citizens in an era marked by ecosocial crises.

I teach in courses that address questions related to cultural ageing, media, digitalization and health.
