I specialize in mass spectrometry–based metabolomics and pharmaceutical analytical chemistry, with over 25 years of experience in analytical method development and research infrastructure leadership.
My research focuses on analytical chemistry in life sciences, with a particular emphasis on metabolomics, lipidomics, and LC‑MS and GC‑MS methodologies. My research interests include metabolic liver disease (MASLD), central nervous system (CNS)–related research, obesity, and early-life development. My aim is to develop and apply advanced analytical solutions to better understand biochemical processes and to support drug discovery and translational research.
I serve as Group Leader of the Pharmaceutical Analytics and Mass Spectrometry group at the School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Eastern Finland. In addition, I act as Head of the LC‑MS Metabolomics Center at Biocenter Kuopio, where I oversee research infrastructure and provide analytical services across the full workflow, from study design to data interpretation. My work also covers pharmaceutical analytical chemistry, particularly method development and validation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
My goal is to bridge advanced analytical chemistry with practical applications in biomedical and pharmaceutical research, enabling the generation of high-quality and reliable data to support scientific discovery.

I work as a specialist of internationality in the Talen Hub Eastern Finland project, especially in the activities that promote international students’ connections to working life. The most important of these are career mentoring, the Future Talents project and the UEF Trainee traineeship programme. In addition, I am involved in organising working life visits and events. In have a university teacher/research background and I have worked as a coordinator of an international master’s programme. I have also worked as an expert in various work packages of a European University Consortium, YUFE.

MA (Finnish history). In my doctoral dissertation, I study the birth of Finnish technical crime investigation in Finland in the 1920s and its integration into the Finnish police and legal system. I am specializing in Finnish police history, Finnish 20th-century criminal and legal history, and historical criminology. I have also studied the neo-Nazi Pekka Siitoin and the activities of the Finnish far-right during the Cold War.
I work at the UEF Law School as a grant researcher in the role of a research assistant.
Marko Vauhkonen ([email protected])
Research work of Professor Marko Vauhkonen concentrates on industrial and biomedical inverse problems. The most prominent area of his research includes development of diffuse tomographic imaging for industrial processes. These imaging modalities can be used for example in monitoring of pipe flows, control of industrial processes and optimizing of process vessels. Studies in biomedical inverse problems include mainly PET, SPECT and fMRI imaging related to time-varying image reconstruction and motion artifact reduction.

I am a doctoral researcher in biblical studies. I research the metaphorical, mythological, cultural and religious associations of trees in the Bible and other early Jewish and Christian literature using large language models. As a researcher, I am interested in ecotheology, conceptual metaphor theoryartificial intelligence assisted data mining, and comparative mythology.
