Ehsan Shad ([email protected])

I’m Ehsan Shad, a project researcher in microbiology, with a strong interest in how bacteria function and interact with their environment. My research focuses on:

  • Exploring the functional properties of bacteria, especially probiotics and their health benefits

  • Investigating antimicrobial compounds and their mechanisms of action on bacterial cells

  • Production of bacteria and their metabolites for functional or industrial purposes

  • Troubleshooting microbial monitoring issues in applied research or industry

I’m always open to research collaboration, exchange of ideas, or tackling real-world microbiological challenges. Feel free to connect!

Elena Puris ([email protected])

My research interests include investigating the roles of membrane transporters (SLCs and ABCs) and receptors expressed at barrier sites in pathogenesis of CNS diseases, in particular in Alzheimer’s disease, as well as in drug delivery and pharmacokinetics.  In addition, my research focuses on identifying novel drug targets for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Another goal of my research is to facilitate CNS drug development by characterizing different in vitro and in vivo models for studying the blood-brain barrier and membrane transporters/receptors.

Elias Koivisto ([email protected])

My research focuses on mapping changes in plant communities, species richness, biodiversity, environmental factors. My main data sources come from drone and satellite images that I use to monitor long-term and large-scale changes in the environment. This visual information I am combining with field data, for instance species, biomass and soil information. To take things a bit further, I am utilizing machine learning and AI in my research.

My research focuses on understanding the interconnected roles of freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems. The aim is to investigate how anthropogenic changes in the freshwater cycle affect the processes of freshwater-supported terrestrial ecosystems. I work in a project where we study shifts in the global freshwater cycle, the human influences driving these changes, and the impacts on the Earth system. Our goal is to identify just and viable solutions to protect the essential freshwater functions that are vital in the Earth system.
